What makes Margate the most picturesque and affordable place to live in the UK?

Thanet seaside town Margate has been crowned the best-value "picturesque" town to buy a home in the UK according to a study conducted by Hammond's Furniture.

The study combined Instagram data with a survey of over 2,000 UK adults to create an initial list of the most picturesque places in the UK. Then, the average local house prices of each location were compared against that of their respective county and handed an "affordability" score out of 100.

Margate scored a very impressive 90/100 for affordability, with homes in the seaside town working out, on average, 26 per cent cheaper than homes across Kent as a whole.

But which areas in Margate earned the iconic coastal location the title of the most popular and affordable place to live in the UK?

Margate Main Sands

Margate's long sandy beachfront has always been popular with locals and visitors alike and is arguably the town's defining feature. Margate Main Sands was recently ranked in the top five best beaches in the entire Kent county and awarded international blue flag beach status for its cleanliness.

Visitors can enjoy stunning sunsets and sunrises on a vista famous for its vibrant skies, while Margate Main Sands is perfect for days out in the sunshine during the summer months.

Beachfront attractions

Combining Margate Main Sands with the many attractions surrounding the Margate beachfront contributes to the historic seaside town being so picturesque. The Turner Contemporary Art Gallery looks striking on the Margate seafront and presents some of the country's best current, thought-provoking pieces of art and creativity.

Further along, Dreamland Adventure Park's vintage aesthetic adds even more character to the beachfront, being a fantastic family seaside attraction and host to high-profile concerts, exciting events, and vibrant festivals. Margate's beachfront also includes multiple quirky cafes, fine dining restaurants and iconic amusements.

Old Town Margate

Thriving with independent shops, galleries, cafes and restaurants, the cobbled streets of Old Town Margate add to the Thanet seaside town's artistic feel and quirky style. The old town is becoming recognised as the art district of Margate and one of the best ways to experience local and regional creativity.

Famous artist Tracey Emin is also opening her new revolutionary art school in the area as part of her broader plans to transform Margate into an 'Artist's Haven'. The Old Town is also home to the Old Kent Market, where you can enjoy traditional seaside fish and chips and many other tasty coastal delicacies.

Blueberry Homes has a project set to begin in Margate very soon called Gallery Walk, consisting of brand-new luxury apartments located in Margate's burgeoning art district, neighbouring Tracy Emin's brand new art school.

Gallery Walk-Margate will also be a short walk away from the vibrant Old Town of Margate, Turner Contemporary art gallery, the revitalised Dreamland vintage theme park, and iconic Margate Main Sands beach. Learn more by visiting our website.
