From February 28th until May 21st, filming for director Sam Mendes’ movie ‘Lumiere (Empire of Light) will begin in Margate. Mendes was behind the James Bond films Skyfall and Spectre and war film 1917.

The entire site has been transformed for the film, which has a star-studded lineup including Olivia Colman (The Crown, Broadchurch), Michael Ward (Top Boy, The Old Guard), and Colin Firth (The King’s Speech, Kingsman: The Secret Service).

Dreamland’s grade II listed neon sign has been temporarily replaced with a new sign for the film, a love story set in the 1980s.

After famous actresses Jodie Comer (Help, Doctor Foster) and Fiona Shaw (Harry Potter film series, True Blood) were spotted filming the final series of the much-loved TV show in Margate last summer, many are expecting the seaside town to appear on our screens when Killing Eve comes back to our screens next week.

Local attractions and businesses where filming took place include Dreamland, the Lido Complex, The Nayland Rock Hotel and the Market Square, Margate Main Sands, Margate Harbour Arm, Sand’s Café and Newgate Lower Promenade.

The Bafta award-winning show has proved to be one of the BBC’s most popular drama series in recent years, featuring actress Sandra Oh (Grey’s Anatomy television series, The Chair).

Thanet continues to live up to its name as the home of the Creative Coast, with ‘A Little Bit Kent, A Lot Fashion’ by Lisa McGuinness opening at Nice Things Gallery in Ramsgate on February 24th.

After graduating from Ravensbourne College in London, Lisa spent many years working as a footwear designer and consultant for various worldwide brands.

Having enjoyed a long career commercially, Lisa has now returned to her first love, painting, doing so from her home studios in Broadstairs and Margate. Lisa will display her work in Harbour Street until March 15th.
